1.Where will the survey data be stored ?

The survey contents and results will remain on the PureSurvey server as long as your account remains active. If you delete a survey or survey results, the data will be permanently removed from the server. To access the raw data, we can run a report that will generate a MS Excel spreadsheet containing the frequency distribution, mean, and standard deviation for all survey items. A summary of comments can also be downloaded.

2. Is the survey data secure ?

The survey data are as secure as your user name and password. You should not share your password with anybody and your password should also not be something that can be easily guessed. To help maintain security, we monitor all login attempts, and if suspicious activity is detected, we will investigate accordingly. We recognise the importance of confidentiality. Your data are stored in our database until you choose to delete the survey results. Only you and the PureSurvey technical staff have access to your data, and we will not share your data with anybody.

3. Is the survey data reliable ?

The reports that are generated contain an accurate summary of the data that was submitted by respondents. For statistical accuracy, you cannot generate survey results for groups of less than 8 respondents. Results from fewer respondents tend to be less reliable. The more respondents who complete the survey, the more reliable your results will be.

4. What are demographic questions and how are they used ?

Optional demographic questions can be asked of respondents at the beginning of the survey to determine the demographic profile of a respondent. Some common default demogaphic questions are provided for your convenience, and you can also specify your own questions relevant to your situation. The demographic questions are used when generating survey results. They allow you to generate reports for specific subgroups so you can compare the responses from these different groups.

5.Is there a minimum number of respondents required to run a report ?

No. But you should consider not running reports with fewer than 8 respondents. This is suggested to achieve a minimum of statistical accuracy, and in the case of surveys that include comments, to preserve the anonymity of respondents.

6. Are there limitations on survey size or respondent numbers ?

No. You can run any size survey with as many respondents as you like.

7.What data can I get from the survey results ?

For items that include a rating, you get a frequency distribution of responses, average raw scores, and standard deviations. The reports present this data in bar charts in a variety of ways, as well as a summary of the raw data that can be imported to your spreadsheet or database. View the sample reports to see how the data is presented. For items that include comments, you will receive a summary of the comments. If you have normalized data for your survey items, it is also possible to generate standard scores.

8.Can I use my existing data norms to generate standardized scores ?

Yes! If you have norms for your survey items we can use them to generate standardized scores (Z scores). With this custom service, you can also group the survey items into scales and factors as well as define positively and negatively loaded items for bipolar scales.

9.What if I don't know anything about statistics ?

No problem. The basic reports are designed to be understood by anybody, and include an explanation of the basic statistical concepts used. These include frequency distribution - simply a count of how many people selected each of the rating options for each item raw mean - the average rating for each item standard deviation - a measure of how much people agree on each item

10.Where can I get help creating survey questions ?

If you are not sure how to write effective survey items, we can assist you as part of a custom solution. If you prefer to tackle this on your own, be sure to ask yourself what you hope to learn from the survey and ask the appropriate questions. Broad questions such as "How satisfied are you with X" seldom provide insight. Ask specific questions that each deal with a single topic. We also recommend including questions that allow respondents to enter comments.

11.What is the Survey Administrator ?

When you click on the "Create a free survey" link, you complete the short account form and you will be logged into the Survey Administrator. As a first-time user, the wizard will guide you throught the process of creating a survey. If you already know what questions you want to ask, your survey can be ready to use in less than ten minutes. Once you have created a survey, you can go back and modify it as long as nobody has completed the survey. This is necessary in order to preserve the integrity of the survey. Changes made after the survey has begun could compromise the integrity of the results.

The Survey Administrator includes an email wizard that will help you send email to survey respondents. The wizard includes templates that include all the relevant information and save you the trouble of composing an email message yourself. If you prefer, you can also use your own email system or any other method to ask people to complete your survey.

15.Can I use my logo on the survey ?

Yes! As a corporate customer you can upload your logo and it will appear on the top of the survey. In addition, you can specify the background and text colors of the survey. These features allow you to create a unique-looking survey that matches your organization's image.

16.How do I enter the data from paper survey submissions ?

If survey respondents complete the paper verison, you will not use the Survey Administrator to enter the data. Instead, you will have to enter them as if you were a respondent. This can be time consuming, so we recommend that you encourage respondents to complete the survey online.

17.How do I monitor the progress of a survey ?

Whenever you want to get real-time information on the number of complete and in-progress surveys, you can log into the Survey Administrator and check these numbers. If you are not getting enough responses, you can use the email wizard to remind respondents to complete the survey. Once you have enough respondents, you can generate a report.

18.How do I get the results once the survey is complete ?

With as little as one click in the survey administrator, you can generate HTML reports summarizing your survey results. If your survey includes demographic questions, you can generate reports on any subgroup.

19.What happens with the data from incomplete survey ratings ?

Only the results from completed survey ratings are used in the reports. Data from incomplete ratings cannot be used in the survey results because it compromises the statistical integrity of the data. It is common for a survey to have many incomplete ratings. Often, users will start a survey and either never complete it or decide to start again. Incomplete ratings do not count toward survey

20.How do respondents complete a survey ?

When you create a survey, you will define a survey name and id. Respondents will go to a page on the PureSurvey web site or a page that you create on your own web site and log in to the survey with this information, or respond to an emailed link. Once a respondent has logged in, he or she will follow the instructions that are provided. You also have the option to distribute a web address that will take respondents directly into your survey without entering a survey name or id.

21. If a respondent is disconneced or his/her computer crashes, can the survey data be recovered ?

Yes! Survey responses are saved as the respondent answers them.

22.What computer, modem speed, and software do I need to use the Survey Administrator ?

The Survey Administrator works with any IBM PC running Internet Explorer 4 and above, with scripting enabled, and will perform well with any modem speed. The only software you need is a web browser that supports frames and javascript. The survey administrator may require that you have cookies enabled as well.
