Mobile Research via smart phones and USSD

Pure Survey provides the latest technology in online research solutions.

One of these innovative mediums is USSD: Unstructured Supplementary Service Data.

USSD works on all handsets and provides a crisp menu interface. USSD`s allows easily run mobile surveys with a massive reach – to anyone in South Africa with a cell phone. USSD is a technology used to send information between a mobile phone and an application on the network. It will allow you to request information in short codes (starting with * and ending with #), or menus from the network via your cellphone. This mobile phone specific survey platform can be run on all types of mobile phones.

USSD can encompass once off requests or interactive navigation with a menu based application. It allows you to store USSD strings or commands in your cellphone phone book so that you don’t have to remember the codes, or can access an application directly. In terms of mobile reach, it’s thus very easy to see that nothing can compare. It is ubiquitous - no special apps are required to be downloaded, and no internet access or set-up is needed on a user’s phone.

According to the Mobility 2011 research project, conducted by World Wide Worx, roughly 6 million South African’s have internet access on their phones – but virtually ALL South African’s with phones have access to USSD.
